How To Limit Searches To A Particular Host Name

This article explains how to limit searches for items in Yahoo Search on a particular host. There may be times where you are on a website and need to search for information you know exists on the site, but either it does not have its own search engine or it is very difficult to use. In these circumstances, you can use the Yahoo! Search Engine to find content only on that site.

Note that this only works for content that Yahoo! has indexed from the site. Content on dynamically-generated webpages, newer pages, and "hidden" and hard-to-get-to pages may not be found using this mechanism.

Perform a search on Yahoo! in the following format:

QUERY hostname:HOST_NAME

QUERY is your search query.

HOST_NAME is the domain for which you want to limit the results - note that with this syntax, as opposed to the site: syntax, you can limit searches to a particular host.

As examples, the following searches for content containing "1040" on the IRS website:

1040 hostname:irs.gov

This searches for information about automobiles on CNN Money, ignoring information on other CNN-related websites:

automobile hostname:money.cnn.com

How To Search UPC Codes Via Yahoo Search

This is a Yahoo tip on how to search for information on a UPC code via Yahoo! Search to see other products made by the same manufacturer.

Curious who made a particular product you own? If it has a 12-digit UPC code, you can enter it into Yahoo! Search to see if it can link to a match. Note you must search using the full 12-digit code (the first and last numbers are normally smaller numbers to the left and right of the other ten digits).

The first result will be a UPC Database partner, currently http://www.upcdatabase.com/. If a result is found in the database you can see a description of the product. Sometimes the manufacturer name is hyperlinked; clicking this can show you other products made by the same company.

Example Searches:

097361564746

Result: "The Godfather Collection" 5 DVD

025725020720

Result: "NFL FOOTBALL MIAMI"

074196300503

Result: "V500G 2D VALUE FLASHLIGHT"

How To Stop Displaying Search Suggestions (Search Assist)

Guys, here's a tutorial on how to prevent the Yahoo! search engine from displaying search suggestions as you type.

By default, as you type your search query into the Yahoo! search engine, its "Search Assist" feature may display sample queries while you are typing. This way not only can you see related queries, you might be able to save a few keystrokes - if one of the suggestions matches your desired query, just click it to begin your search. For example, as you begin typing "total eclipse", you might see suggestions such as "total eclipse of the sun" or "total eclipse of the heart".

For various reasons some would rather not have these suggestions displayed. Perhaps they are a fast typist and find the suggestions unnecessary, or they may not like the suggestions presented. For whatever reason, suggestions can be disabled by doing the following:

Example of Yahoo! Search Assist displaying search suggestions as one begins to type "computer"

1. Click the "Options" link, clicking "Preferences" when the pop-up menu appears.

2. When the "Search Preferences" page appears, next to "Search Assist", click the "Edit" link.

3. The "Search Preferences - Search Assist" page appears. Click the "Never" radio button, then press the "Save" button.

Disabling Search Assist for Yahoo!

*Note that if you are not signed into a Yahoo! account, your preferences may not be permanently saved. This option saves a cookie on your system, so clearing the cookies in your browser (which may be done by your firewall or other security software) will remove this setting.

4. Click the "Finished" button when the "Search Preferences" page appears to return to the Yahoo! search page.

10 Most Amazing Google Search Tips and Tricks

Searching on Google can be a magical experience once you find out how to make your search queries efficient. By making efficient I mean using some tricks or the cheat sheet provided by Google itself to quickly find what you actually require. Having being hooked onto Google for a long time now, I have come across some amazing search tips and tricks which can change the way you look at Google today.

In this article I will list down the search tricks which I use quite frequently. Be it finding time, meanings or watching the cricket score, searching PDF’s, with Google as the search engine life cannot be more simpler.

Here are the 10 most amazing Google Search tricks:

1. Different Types of Files at your will
How many times would you have asked for materials (PDF, PPT, DOC) for a particular topic from a friend? Its almost everyday that we might have the necessity to ask them either for knowledge, preparing a presentation, white-paper or for case studies. Such times it mostly difficult to look out what to exactly search for because most of the times you don’t know about the topic at hand. But this petty keyword unleashes its lethal power at such occasions.

Let’s say I want to implement a case study on SOA which means I have to read a lot of information for SOA. So I just have to find materials which might have already been uploaded on the web in the form of PDF’s, DOC’s or PPT’s. These materials can be easily obtained by doing a search for:
2. Scholarly Search
If you want some authenticity of the materials then it would be better to find the materials from educational institutes or universities. For this use the Google scholar search. But suppose you don’t like to switch to Google scholar search you can add the same query with an additional parameter to the normal Google search box,
3. Meanings of any word in an instant
Now you do not have to carry a dictionary or install a dictionary software just for the purpose of finding out a meaning of a word. With the wealth of information in Google’s hands, its a piece of cake to find out the meaning of the word. Just use the define: keyword. The meaning would of course be displayed but also a set of other links which might have an alternative definition are also given out with the link to read more about it.
You would argue here that, a dicitionary gives out more information than this. But what about words that don’t actually fall within the vocabulary. Suppose you want to know what SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) is then you would have no choice. Google Search comes to your rescue in this case,
4. Find the time of any location
Many of us might be probably working for client which are based at different locations. And communication has to be carried out frequently carried out in such cases. But before a communication you have to know which time zone the location is falling into otherwise you would be causing a disturbance.
I have seen people installing time zone software for showing the time of the location they would be calling to. But with Google at your hands you don’t have to install any software. It would be just simple to use a query for finding the current time such as,
Look closely the time on the little clock graphic. It also shows the perfect time!

5. Weather at your fingertips
I had been to GOA for a Christmas vacation in the last week of December. But I made a mistake of not finding out the temperature of GOA before leaving. Had I known that it is hot even in the winter I would not have made the mistake of carrying additional luggage consisting of blankets and jackets.
If you are thinking to visit a place it is useful to know what the temperature of the place is before hand, it can make efficient packing. Google helps you here too. Just use this query without asking anybody or waiting for the news to make a weather report. I wish I had thought of this!
6. Google does live commentary too!
Indians are cricket fanatics. But its amusing to see the organizations here trying to put together tactics to devoid cricket lovers from wasting time to watch the cricket scores instead of doing their work. What I think they fail to understand is that by blocking the live cricket scoring sites they are actually making the employees more curios and provoking them to hunt for proxy networks or listen to the radio or chat with their friends elsewhere.

Jokes apart, you actually don’t need proxy networks to view the live cricket scores if you at least have access to Google. If you want to find the latest info about all the cricket matches then just type,
But if you want to find out only about a particular match then use only the names of the two playing nations,
Remember that the scorecard will come only when the play is going on.

7. Calculate with your browser
Every OS has a calculator inbuilt but when the browser is the thing which is constantly open whey bother to open up a calculator. Open Google and straight away type your mathematical expression. You can go all the way from basic arithmetic to trigonometrical expressions. This is simply amazing stuff accomplished by Google.
8. Compare your currency with others
Now that the dollar is declining, the rest of the world must be busy trying to check the impact of the dollar on their currencies. But first of all one must know how much a particular currency amounts to when cashed in another currency. Google’s inbuilt currency converter just does this.
9. Keep track of the stocks
With the booming stock market it is very important to track the stocks on a day to day basis. Putting a stock ticker in the search box is the most obvious thing you would think of. But it is not always you would remember the stock ticker, you should add the keyword “stocks:” to the company name.
The best part of the obtained result is that it provides a chart which shows the trend in the company’s stock along with important statistics.
Note: Currently the results are restricted to the companies listed in the US stock markets.

10. Wanna find some faces?
This is most interesting trick. You might be needing images for various occasions and searching for images is the most difficult thing because what we expect might not be possibly mapped to a query. But Google has a parameter in place for images in situations we need an image which describes a face.
Suppose I search for the term “happy” then the Google results page displays smileys. But I would like to use images of happy people. Even if I choose the term as “happy face” the results don’t show images which contain people. For this there is a parameter “imgtype” which you can use with the URL. For this put in the URL as follows:
There are many more variations which can be bought about with the above tricks thus making your search experience not only enriching but also exciting. If I have missed any tricks of common usage, feel free to mention it.

Hope you like this article, please share!

How to Handle Your Farm Town Animals

There are a lot of different things that can be added to a Farm Town farm, but one of the most popular additions is one of the bevy of animals that are available in the game. Farm Town animals come in all shapes and sizes and can be quite entertaining to handle for players who are interested in having a bit of color and liveliness on their farms. However, Farm Town animals do not necessarily reward you any better than the crops and while it is nice to have a few standing around to mix up how things look, you need to strike a good balance between having variety and wasting space. So how to handle your farm town animals wisely? Read on...

Which Farm Town Animals Are Best?

Every kind of animal you can imagine on a real farm can appear on your own farm, and then some. The only thing you need to know is selecting them wisely and how to handle them. The most common are chickens, cows, ducks, horses and pigs, but you can also get some rare ones such as swans, rabbits, turtles and many more. Just like other farming games, special limited edition animals are also available if you play the game properly. You just need to have someone who can send them to you or you need the Farm Town Cash to buy them. There is no such thing as a “best” animal in Farm Town – it’s all about aesthetics at this point.

How to Get, Handle and Maintain your Farm Town Animals
Unlike some other Farm games, your animals are going to move around, so you need to have a good enclosure set up to restrict their movements as much as possible. If you fail to do this, you risk losing your animals entirely, a huge waste of money and a frustrating development for most farmers out there. Use your fences and your other structures to block off animals and keep them restrained. If you do this, you can essentially ignore them after that. If you don’t handle though, they may destroy your crops – something no one wants.
If you are interested in getting a good stock of Farm Town animals for your farm, you need to start out by figuring out how much space you are willing to sacrifice for them. You also need to be sure you can login often enough to take care of them and make sure you can harvest the fruits of your labors as a result. If you can do all that, you will be well on your way to establishing a good handling balance between crops and animals on your farm.

How To Formulate A Good Search String

This is a tutorial on how to formulate a good Google search string:

Google uses AND logic for the queries by default. If you search linux vpn howto google searches for pages containing linux AND vpn AND howto. You can put OR logic in the search box like this

linux OR vpn OR howto

You can exclude some terms using "-"

linux vpn -installation

Try ( linux vpn - installation ) and see how it is different from the above query. You can group a set of terms by enclosing them in brackets. It is also possible to combine AND and OR operators.
It may be noted that Google is not case sensitive regarding search strings. Linux, LINUX and linux produces the same results. However the operators such as AND and OR are case sensitive.

Google Tips and Tricks: Google Search Basics

The Basic search help article covers all the most common issues, but sometimes you need a little bit more power. This document will highlight the more advanced features of Google Web Search. Have in mind though that even very advanced searchers, such as the members of the search group at Google, use these features less than 5% of the time. Basic simple search is often enough. As always, we use square brackets [ ] to denote queries, so [ to be or not to be ] is an example of a query; [ to be ] or [ not to be ] are two examples of queries.
  • Phrase search ("")
By putting double quotes around a set of words, you are telling Google to consider the exact words in that exact order without any change. Google already uses the order and the fact that the words are together as a very strong signal and will stray from it only for a good reason, so quotes are usually unnecessary. By insisting on phrase search you might be missing good results accidentally. For example, a search for [ "Alexander Bell" ] (with quotes) will miss the pages that refer to Alexander G. Bell.
  • Search within a specific website (site:)
Google allows you to specify that your search results must come from a given website. For example, the query [ iraq site:nytimes.com ] will return pages about Iraq but only from nytimes.com. The simpler queries [ iraq nytimes.com ] or [ iraq New York Times ] will usually be just as good, though they might return results from other sites that mention the New York Times. You can also specify a whole class of sites, for example [ iraq site:.gov ] will return results only from a .gov domain and [ iraq site:.iq ] will return results only from Iraqi sites.
  • Terms you want to exclude (-)
Attaching a minus sign immediately before a word indicates that you do not want pages that contain this word to appear in your results. The minus sign should appear immediately before the word and should be preceded with a space. For example, in the query [ anti-virus software ], the minus sign is used as a hyphen and will not be interpreted as an exclusion symbol; whereas the query [ anti-virus -software ] will search for the words 'anti-virus' but exclude references to software. You can exclude as many words as you want by using the - sign in front of all of them, for example [ jaguar -cars -football -os ]. The - sign can be used to exclude more than just words. For example, place a hyphen before the 'site:' operator (without a space) to exclude a specific site from your search results.
  • Fill in the blanks (*)
The *, or wildcard, is a little-known feature that can be very powerful. If you include * within a query, it tells Google to try to treat the star as a placeholder for any unknown term(s) and then find the best matches. For example, the search [ Google * ] will give you results about many of Google's products (go to next page and next page -- we have many products). The query [ Obama voted * on the * bill ] will give you stories about different votes on different bills. Note that the * operator works only on whole words, not parts of words.
  • Search exactly as is (+)
Google employs synonyms automatically, so that it finds pages that mention, for example, childcare for the query [ child care ] (with a space), or California history for the query [ ca history ]. But sometimes Google helps out a little too much and gives you a synonym when you don't really want it. By attaching a + immediately before a word (remember, don't add a space after the +), you are telling Google to match that word precisely as you typed it. Putting double quotes around a single word will do the same thing.
  • The OR operator
Google's default behavior is to consider all the words in a search. If you want to specifically allow either one of several words, you can use the OR operator (note that you have to type 'OR' in ALL CAPS). For example, [ San Francisco Giants 2004 OR 2005 ] will give you results about either one of these years, whereas [ San Francisco Giants 2004 2005 ] (without the OR) will show pages that include both years on the same page. The symbol | can be substituted for OR. (The AND operator, by the way, is the default, so it is not needed.)

Exceptions

Search is rarely absolute. Search engines use a variety of techniques to imitate how people think and to approximate their behavior. As a result, most rules have exceptions. For example, the query [ for better or for worse ] will not be interpreted by Google as an OR query, but as a phrase that matches a (very popular) comic strip. Google will show calculator results for the query [ 34 * 87 ] rather than use the 'Fill in the blanks' operator. Both cases follow the obvious intent of the query. Here is a list of exceptions to some of the rules and guidelines that were mentioned in this and the Basic Search Help article:

Exceptions to 'Every word matters'

  • Words that are commonly used, like 'the,' 'a,' and 'for,' are usually ignored (these are called stop words). But there are even exceptions to this exception. The search [ the who ] likely refers to the band; the query [ who ] probably refers to the World Health Organization -- Google will not ignore the word 'the' in the first query.
  • Synonyms might replace some words in your original query. (Adding + before a word disables synonyms.)
  • A particular word might not appear on a page in your results if there is sufficient other evidence that the page is relevant. The evidence might come from language analysis that Google has done or many other sources. For example, the query [ overhead view of the bellagio pool ] will give you nice overhead pictures from pages that do not include the word 'overhead.'

Punctuation that is not ignored

* Punctuation in popular terms that have particular meanings, like [ C++ ] or [ C# ] (both are names of programming languages), are not ignored.
* The dollar sign ($) is used to indicate prices. [ nikon 400 ] and [ nikon $400 ] will give different results.
* The hyphen - is sometimes used as a signal that the two words around it are very strongly connected. (Unless there is no space after the - and a space before it, in which case it is a negative sign.)
* The underscore symbol _ is not ignored when it connects two words, e.g. [ quick_sort ].

Top 10 Useful Google Search Tips and Tricks

Only about 1 in 10 users really know how to leverage the Google search facility to zero in on high - quality search results on what they are looking for. In this post I'll discuss on some known and not so well - known techniques you can use to make your Google searching not only more productive, but more fun and useful.

Tip Number One:
The first thing you must do to generate a productive search is think. You need to think about what it is you really want. You really have to search Google for the words or phrases that will be on the page you want, not for a description of the page or website. So if you are looking for a comparative review of wireless telephones, you will probably get more results from a list of names such as SmartPhone, Audiovox, Motorola, and so on, than the words "comparative review of wireless phones".

Tip Number Two:
Use Quotation marks to force finding a specific phrase.
When you surround your phrase with quotation marks, the search engine will only return results exactly matching the entire phrase. This is an extremely powerful search technique, and yet it is not used by the majority of web searchers. If you search on the two words George and Washington, you will get over 8 million results. If you put quotation marks around the entire name, your results will be restricted to about 3 million. And if your search is on "George Washington" "Cherry Tree", you will only get about 12,600 results. You get the picture. This is especially important if your search contains what are called "stop words" - words that Google is designed to ignore, such as "and" "of" and "the". By including these inside your quoted phrase, you will get more targeted search results.

Tip Number Three:
Use the Plus (+) and Minus (-) Signs.
The plus sign just before a search term means "This MUST be found in the search". Conversely, if you find a lot of search results that include a specific product, word, phrase, or item that you do not want to see, you can put a minus sign before that word or phrase, and those results will be excluded from your search. You can even exclude domains or top-level domains from your search - see the site: command below.

Tip Number Four:
Use the Asterisk (*) As a WildCard search term.
Yes, you can insert an asterisk in your search phrase and it will act as a wild card matching any word in that place in the phrase. Not only that, but you can insert more than one asterisk in place of more than one word in your search phrase, up to the limit of ten search words - and the wild card markers are not counted toward this ten word limit.

Tip Number Five:
Use the site: command.
If you are interested in finding examples of the term XMLHttp, but only on eggheadcafe.com, then you can create a search like this:    site:eggheadcafe.com XMLHTTP This will restrict your search to only pages belonging to that web site. You will notice that in regular Google searches, if there are more than two results from that site, the second result will be indented and there will be a link "More results from ..." - this automatically uses the site: qualifier. Also, you can search or exclude whole domains. For example, you can search for tampopo dvd site:co.uk or tampopo dvd -site:com (Tampopo is a wonderful Japanese noodle western spoof by director Juzo Itami that is sure to be enjoyed by Americans. If you really want to get educated IMHO, try to avoid watching films out of Hollywood, as they generally stink).

Tip Number Six:
Use the operators.
Besides the site: command, Google understands a range of operators that include filetype: (eg doc, xls, or pdf), intext: and allintext:, intitle: and allintitle:, inurl: and allinurl:, author: (in Google Groups) and location: (in Google News). Google also understands a logical OR, provided it is upper case. This means you can search for a bar in Orlando OR Miami for example. It is useful when targets of searches have alternative or variable spellings: outsourcing bombay OR mumbai. The OR command can be shortened to a vertical bar (|), as in outsourcing bombay | mumbai. Another way of adding alternatives is to use a tilde character (~). Thus if you search for ~food, Google also searches for cooking, cuisine, nutrition, recipes and restaurants. You have a lot of power and flexibility; you just have to make some notes and learn the language that the search engine understands so that you can speak to it. The search engine doesn't get mad or take offense - provided that you know its language, it will do exactly what you tell it to!

Tip Number Seven:
Use the Advanced Search Page.
Fortunately, you don't need to memorize all of the above tricks, since they are conveniently offered to you in various combinations in the Advanced Search option which is always available from the main Google search page.

Tip Number Eight:
Use Google Groups.
Google has the most complete archive of usenet and other news posts going back over 20 years. By simply switching tabs from Web to Groups, your search term(s) will be repeated on the Groups archives. I cannot stress how valuable this can be- many, many times when I have not found a proper result on the web, by simply switching to Google Groups I've been able to find exactly what I was looking for.

Tip Number Nine:
Use new advanced search features.
Google has a number of new features including Google Local, Google News (news items from newspapers and other publications around the globe), Froogle - which searches for the best prices on products, and the Dictionary - to get the spelling and / or definition of a word. In fact, if you may have misspelled a word in your search, Google's dictionary will remind you with a link that says "Did you really mean XXX?" and clicking that link will correct your search. Google also provides an Images search facility that brings back results filled with actual images on web pages that match your search terms. One of the lastest new offerings as of this writing in October, 2004, is a mobile SMS search that allows you to send an SMS message to google with your search terms for a restaurant and zipcode, somebody's name and address, or whatever, and get back the results to your cellphone in seconds. I've used it, and it works great. You can even get driving directions.

Here's a table with a listing of links to some of the Google advanced search features:

Cached Links View a snapshot of each page as it looked when we indexed it.
Calculator Use Google to evaluate mathematical expressions.
Definitions Use Google to get glossary definitions gathered from various online sources.
File Types Search for non-HTML file formats including PDF documents and others.
Froogle To find a product for sale online, use Froogle - Google's product search service.
I'm Feeling Lucky Bypass our results and go to the first web page returned for your query.
Local Search - New! Search for local businesses and services in the U.S. and Canada.
News Headlines Enhances your search results with the latest related news stories.
PhoneBook Look up U.S. street address and phone number information.
Search By Number Use Google to access package tracking information, US patents, and a variety of online databases.
Similar Pages Display pages that are related to a particular result.
Site Search Restrict your search to a specific site.
Spell Checker Offers alternative spelling for queries.
Stock Quotes Use Google to get stock and mutual fund information.
Street Maps Use Google to find U.S. street maps.
Travel Information Check the status of an airline flight in the U.S. or view airport delays and weather conditions.
  • Web Page Translation  Provides English speakers access to a variety of non-English web pages.
Who Links To You? Find all the pages that point to a specific URL.

Tip Number Ten:
Use the Google API.
Google has an API with a WSDL webservices proxy class generator for developers that allows you to incorporate the power of Google search into your own applications. It's free, and all you need to do is download the SDK and request a free license key. Now that I think of it, Amazon also has a very fine API that now includes the Alexa search engine which provides some very useful statistical information about URLs and web crawler searches from the Alexa engine, so Google "ain't the only game in town".

Happy reading! Please share this post! Thanks!

Google Search Engine Overview

In 1996, BackRub, written in Java and Python, was running on several Sun Ultras and Intel Pentiums running Linux. The primary database was kept on a Sun Ultra II with 28GB of disk space. Scott Hassan and Alan Steremberg provided a great deal of very talented implementation help. Sergey Brin was also very involved. Some interesting statistics from this early Google predecessor:
  • Total indexable HTML urls: 75.2306 Million
  • Total content downloaded: 207.022 gigabytes
  • Total indexable HTML pages downloaded: 30.6255 Million
  • Total indexable HTML pages which have not been attempted yet: 30.6822 Million
  • Total robots.txt excluded: 0.224249 Million
  • Total socket or connection errors: 1.31841 Million
In June of 1999, Google received $25 Million in equity funding through Sequoia Capital, and the rest is - well, history. In the realm of public offerings, and despite considerable controversy about the way the offering was handled, it has nearly doubled in value since September 2004, flirting with the $200 mark. If the owners prove to continue to be as prescient and savant as they have been up to the public offering, they have the capitalization to literally squash any competitors. We will see how well they really can do as a public company. I don't know about you, but if I were one of those early Sequoia fund investors, I'd be pretty damn happy right now.

This isn't a piece about the Google story - there are already a few authors who've seen fit to write books on the subject, and undoubtedly there will be more. It will certainly be the centerpiece of courses at the Harvard School of Business and many others. This is about you, me and Google today, and tomorrow, in our daily needs for knowledge.

High Speed Leveling in Farm Town

The key to high speed leveling in Farm Town is not to expect anything of the game that you don’t put into it. The game is not going to level you up automatically. You need to choose the right crops, use the space well, log in often enough to harvest and replant, and make sure that you use up as much plot space as possible. This isn’t a game that will allow you to take shortcuts and get better rewards. Leveling in Farm town is a process that requires a careful eye for what makes the game operate. To help you get that eye in place, here are some tips.

Selecting and Placing Your Crops
As with any farming game, the goal is to find the crops that are going to grow within your own scheduled play time and give you the most possible coins. However, there are some crops that grow incredibly fast that are highly valuable. In an effort to reward you for staying online as much as possible. SlashKey has made it so the fastest growing items are the most profitable more times than not. Raspberries in this case will do the trick with coins per hour rates well over 5. If you are online constantly, can make up to 40 coins per plot each day – a massive profit by the time all is said and done.

Balancing How Your Level Your Farm
Along with these high reward crops, you can get a ton of XP because you will be planting, watering and harvesting so often. But, you must keep in mind that you will receive a good chunk of XP or the plants that take longer to harvest. It’s all a matter of finding a good balance between speed and your own schedule. If you can’t afford to logon that often, make sure you can log on whenever the crops are grown. In the end, this is the fastest way to reach the top levels.

If you are intent on leveling in Farm Town at a high speed, you’re going to need to spend at least an hour or two every day playing the game. You cannot rely on long term crops to reward you with enough XP to get to the higher levels on their own. They might reward you with the right amount of coins, but the XP is just not there. If you can balance all of these factors though, you’ll be well on your way to the top level before you know it. So that's the key to a high speed leveling in farm town. Hope that helps...

Farm Town Cash and Coins

Farm Town, just like almost every other social networking game on the Internet these days, requires that you have two different forms of currency. The first of these is Farm Town Cash – the currency that you will receive very sparingly from the game for leveling up and completing very rare tasks. The only other way to get Farm Town cash, which is used to level up your plot size and to get rare items that are only available in the game in small amounts, is to pay real cash or to complete surveys to get that cash.

The other form of currency is the Farm Town coins that are used to plant and harvest crops, install new buildings and setup your animals and trees. Here are some tips to getting both kinds of currency effectively.

How to Get More Farm Town Cash
For those interested in making more Farm Town Cash, the truth is that you’re going to need to spend a lot of time leveling up. You gain some cash for every level you gain, but that’s about all you’re going to be awarded for. That means you will have a finite amount of cash to work with in the game until you reach the top level. The only other real option is to whip out your wallet and start spending real world cash money on things you don’t necessarily need.

When to Aim for Coins Instead of Farm Town Cash
You should aim for coins instead of cash as soon as you can. Because they don’t want to block off sections of the game, it is possible to do everything Farm Town without having the Farm Cash. However, you need to amass a good chunk of coins to do it and make sure you have a solid 8 neighbors who play the game regularly and can help you with gifts and assistance on your farm. If you can do those two things though, the need for Farm Cash disappears very quickly.

For anyone that is really serious about how to play this game effectively, you need to spend some time figuring out how to get as many Farm Town coins and as much Farm Town cash as possible. The currency is really the key to building a bigger, more successful farm and without that extra currency(cash and coins), expect quite a long grind to the top of the game where the best are playing.

The Secret of Freezing Animals in Farm Town

The title to this article is a bit misleading as there is no real “Secret” to freezing animals in Farm Town. In fact, the key to this article is that you need to learn how to manage the space you are given and to not spend too much time trying to balance all of your animals against the proper amount of space. Animals, after all, need space and proper facilities. If you do not want to make those facilities or cannot afford to build them, you should consider freezing animals for later use rather than having them wandering around an open farm where they can get away. Bottomline, freeze them.

How to Freeze Animals in Farm Town

To freeze your animals in Farm Town, you simply need to click on them and choose to freeze them so they don’t wander around. Because those animals can easily trample your crops or simply run away when not frozen, this will keep them in place and help you get your farm in order before you install a fence. Many players choose to do this when they are at a low level because they cannot yet afford to put in those fences.

Other players do this so they can maximize their farm plots and get more coins for their crops before they start adding animals to the game and playing it as such. There are a number of reasons why players will freeze their animals – but most of the time it is because they spend a great deal of time doing other things and cannot yet handle those animals.

Maintaining Your Farm Space Carefully

Managing your farm space is important. If you want to build an area where those farm animals can roam freely without danger of causing any destruction, you need to have it set aside and big enough to keep them happy. But don’t sacrifice any of your space that you use for the crops you have set up either. You will only start to lose money this way.

The goal of every Farm Town farmer should be to have a careful grip on the space you are given, making sure to layout exactly what you need where it will be kept for days and weeks to come. This is best realized in the placement and use of your animals. If you do not like freezing animals, you should consider selling or giving them away. A good farm needs to have a good plan. That means for everything, not just your crops.

Do You Have the Right Farm Town Crops?

Like all of the major farming games on Facebook, Farm Town has a lot of moving parts. You need to manage right your space, harvesting, seeding, cropsright , animals, buildings, and neighbors. However, nothing is more important than your selection of the right Farm Town crops. If you don’t get the right crops in place, you’re doing nothing better than wasting a tremendous right amount of time creating a big open farm and not planting things that will reward you with high amounts of XP and coins. So, here are a few tips to help you choose the right Farm Town crops – the ones that will result in big profits.

Which Crops Do the Best?

The crops that do the best in Farm Town are those that grow quickly. This includes to have small fruits and vegetables like berries, grapes, and carrots. The other crops that are available for longer time periods are often set up so that players can take a day or two off from the game without needing to login. If you do that however, you will get less experience and far less coins than you would by playing often.
Ideally, you want to be able to play the game for consecutive periods of time throughout the day if you want to level up and get coins right quickly. If this is not possible, you will need to settle for lesser crops.

How to Prepare Your Plot of Land

To effectively prepare your plots, make sure to delete any premade plots and replow them as closely together as possible. By default, the game wastes a great deal of space that can be used for growing. If you can get the plots to stack on each other directly, you can usually fit in between 10 and 30 extra plots on your farm that will make for far greater profits and much faster leveling. Just be sure to check that you don’t need the space for building so that you won’t need to restructure again later.
If you can do it properly, Farm Town crops that are well researched and planted around your own schedule will help you get far more coins than the ones that are planted with nothing in mind other than what you like to eat or what you think looks pretty. This is a game of strategy and if you play toward that strategy, you will be rewarded many times over for your careful attention to detail.

So, I Got Myself Addicted to Another Facebook Game

Ugh, I don’t know what it is about these games. I see them in the ads to the right or on the bookmark bar when I log in and say to myself, “who plays these games so much?” but then I start playing them and next thing I know it, it’s Tuesday and I haven’t shaved or eaten anything for a week.
That last part is not entirely true, but it may as well be because my energy seems to be dissipating into the ether. Need to go to the store? Crud, I was on Facebook. Need to take the kids to the dentist? Dang it, I was on Facebook.
So, it’s even more annoying when I get addicted to a game that I know for a fact I’m going to be playing for a good long time and I’m not even very good at it. I mean, how much time can you really pour into something that you aren’t going to perform well in? The list seems endless but it can be a bit frustrating to see the clock ticking by while my Farm Town coins just sit there stagnant.
Fast forward a few days into my first run through with Farm Town and I’m still trying to figure how to set up the best plot formation and how to make a real profit with the game rather than throwing coins down the toilet whenever I login. I haven’t quite figured it out yet, but I might be getting a lot closer because I just stumbled upon a guide that the other players are saying is making things very different.
It’s called Farm Town Secret Guide To Success and I have heard of the author before (he’s the guy who did the awesome FarmTown guide the came out a few months ago). The thing is loaded to the gills with information about this game that would take hours or even days to dig up on your own and it’s very clear this guy has played the game a lot. I’m still playing away, but already, I think I see a half dozen things I was doing wrong – it shouldn’t be too much longer before I can upgrade the old gameplay a bit and start playing like a real pro.

A Quick Walkthrough of the Newest Farmtown Guide

I sat down the other day and checked out a guide (newest farmtown guide) that had been sent to my inbox by a friend of mine who is a devoted Farm Town fan. She said that it was changing how she played the game in a dozen different ways, so instead of rolling my eyes (which was my original inclination), I checked out the guide.
Let’s just say I’m glad I didn’t roll my eyes and ignore her message because this newest farmtown guide is actually a tremendous new opportunity for anyone that is playing Farm Town and not doing so hot. This is a quick game that tries its hardest to make the game a pain in the butt so that you hand over your hard earned cash or credit card number to Playfish to speed things up.
Here's the walkthrough, so, having a new guide that shows you all the secrets and shortcuts that have already been uncovered makes a lot of sense when it comes to laying out a good quick plan for your farm. If you’ve ever played the other big farming games like Country Story or FarmTown, you know what you’re getting into, but you may not know what this game in particular wants.
It’s a complex and far more detailed game than the other ones with requirements to plant, water, grow, and harvest in separate instances. The plots are closer. The seeds are far more volatile and the number of other tasks you can perform on your farm are far more numerous. You need to do a lot of things right if you want even a halfway decent gameplan to work with here.
So, it’s not surprising that Farm Town Domination, the new guide I checked out, is doing so well. Honestly, I would recommend it to anyone that plays Farm town even just casually. It’s a onetime investment that is going to help you play this game much better in the long run than you would if you were just tagging along for a while planting and harvesting when you have the time.

How To Build A Large Team In Superhero City

How To Build A Large Team In Superhero City

In Superhero City, the larger your team is the more powerful you become. When battling other players, every person on your team will have their stats automatically added to your own. This gives your overall Attack, Defense and Agility stats a huge boost. So recruit as many of your friends as you can.

Team stats can be viewed by clicking the Stats tab. There you will see your individual stats (Player Stats), and under that, your Team Stats.

Increasing Team Size:

The easiest way to increase the size of your team is to recruit your friends. You can do this by either inviting them individually or by recruiting on your Facebook Wall. By clicking on the My Team tab, you can access both of these options.

Recruiting your own friends has its limitations however. It’s unlikely that all of them will actually want to play Superhero City. The other thing is that you might not have a huge list of friends to begin with.

To get past this problem and to grow a large, powerful team, you should recruit other SC players.

In the top left corner of your screen (above where it shows your current level), click on the “Forum” link. This will take you to the Superhero City forum, where you will see at the top of the page the Official - Add Me thread.

What you want to do here is post a simple message that basically says, “add me”. So when other players who want to grow their own team see this, they will add you.

You can also add people you see in that thread of course. It works both ways.

The only downside to adding strangers is that you must first add them as a Facebook friend before adding them to your team. This creates a real privacy issue, as you probably don’t want total strangers snooping through your photos and correspondences.

The easiest way around this is to accept their friend request, then quickly jump into Superhero City and add them to your team. Once that’s done, jump right back out to their profile page and remove them from your friends list. This will stop them from being able to snoop around, but it won’t affect their status as your team member.

To do this, accept the friend request like normal, then open up Superhero City. Once there, click on the My Team tab and accept their request to join your team. Then, go back out to their profile page and scroll down until you see a link that says “Remove from Friends” near the bottom of the page on the left. Click it, confirm, and you’re done.
